When I was scouring the yellow sheet for the very last session, I noticed the group from SIU--my alma mater--so I went even though it was half over by then because of my chat with the Waypoint CEO. Regardless, Regionally Accredited schools have far more distance learning programs than Nationally Accredited schools. There many distance learning programs at Regionally Accredited schools that have professional accreditation as well. DETC may accredit schools that offer distance learning programs. However, that does not make DETC the gold standard accreditor of distance education.Franknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1855340401481280294.post-11032460775889761782009-07-07T02:24:45.432-05:002009-07-07T02:24:45.432-05:00yeah good point on your blog post, it is easy to u...yeah good point on your blog post, it is easy to understand, thanks for sharing, keep it up…John Pagethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01675103754275734176noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1855340401481280294.post-67224434338268016092009-06-02T06:34:22.942-05:002009-06-02T06:34:22.942-05:00hai,

My own conclusion is that in practice an e-Portfolio can serve many purposes.

I am sure that a potential employer does not need to know which football team I support or the car I drive but these might be very important when trying to establish a local community project. Equally, a project that I'm working on might be viewed by my mentor but not yet seen by some of my peers with whom I collaborate.

I have often used the illustration of applying for several jobs at the same time (surely most of us have done this at one time or another?) We write different covering letters and use a variety of artefacts to support different self-representations to the different audiences.

The bottom line is this: instead of creating a range of different e-Portfolios for different purposes, often using some common artefacts, why not have all appropriate artefacts together in one e-Portfolio but using different 'views' for the different audiences?

I could go on, but much of this is documented in my blog!

Kind Regards,
Ray TRay Tolleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03654892229937491921noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1855340401481280294.post-50029435394553568592009-04-23T04:14:00.000-05:002009-04-23T04:14:00.000-05:00Mary,
You pose two extremes which make for a good...Mary,

You pose two extremes which make for a good starting point, and your Inventory clarifies to some extent. But firstly I would argue with you that the direct-not-direct argument ignores the possibility of several graduations between ie providing advice or guidance with varying degrees of expectation.

Secondly, is the very big area relating to the use of the institution's VLE for assessment. There are good assessment tools available that work within the VLE - this would not be possible if students were encouraged to create their own e-Portfolios which were not 'hard-wired' to the VLE.

However, it appears that you ignore one principle which to me is essential. 'Should the e-Portfolio contain all of a student's coursework or only selected samples?' For me, the e-Portfolio is owned by the student and presents to the identified audience only those artefacts which are relevant.

This does raise another important issue, that of multiple concurrent audiences. An e-Portfolio is used for many purposes, not just capstone assessments. The e-Portfolio must therefore be capable of several different 'views', according to audience.

My conclusion, therefore, is that the e-Portfolio tool must be a commercial product if it is to provide all the functionality expected of it and yet simple enough to use by even the least ICT literate.Ray Tolleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03654892229937491921noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1855340401481280294.post-47069987039695849192009-04-13T07:18:00.000-05:002009-04-13T07:18:00.000-05:00Thanks for the link up!
